Firewise Townhall

On October 18th, Highland Firewise, joined forces with Prospect Heights Firewise to co-host a townhall event focused on emergency preparedness including fire safety. We brought together 14 leaders from across the city and county including: City Councilmembers Kalantari-Johnson, Meyers, Watkins, First District Supervisor Manu Koenig, as well as representatives from the City Fire Department, Police Department, Parks and Recreation, Office of Response, Resilience, Recovery, Office of Homelessness, CERT, and local faith communities. The 90 minute event included presentations from several groups plus responses to audience questions. Below are some photos and a recording of the event.

It was great to hear from so many of the leaders of our city. Clearly the wildfire problem space is complex and broad. It’s our hope that events like this can begin to foster the necessary conversations that will form the foundation of partnership between the leaders and citizens of Santa Cruz County.

As promised, we are working on getting answers to questions we weren’t able to get covered during the event. They will be posted as an update to this blogpost when we have them.

Special thanks to Abby Young and the entire Prospect Heights Firewise group for their support and organizational effort.
